Harry achieved degrees in biomedical science (molecular pathology) and law from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
Harry was the dux of his high school coming first in biology, calculus, chemistry, Japanese and physics. He was awarded a five-year scholarship to study biochemistry at Tokyo University, but gave that up to pursue law. He is admitted to the High Court of New Zealand and the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
Harry is the father of three daughters (twins who are 25 years old and a five-year-old girl), a four-year-old boy, and four step-children.
He also has five grandchildren.
His maternal grandparents were of Welsh, English, Scots-Irish, Irish, and French (Brittany and Huguenot) descent. He is descended, through his maternal grandmother, from Clan Bell: I beir the bel. His paternal grandparents were of Maori (Ngati Kahungunu, Rongomaiwahine and Nga Puhi), and Welsh-Irish descent. His paternal and maternal forefathers fought in World Wars I (Galipolli and The Battle of the Somme) & II (The Battle of River Plate) . Harry was a Territorial Force solider in the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment while he was at university. He applied for The French Foreign Legion when he was 29 years old, but failed because another Angolphone (English speaker) was chosen over him. Harry spends his free time with his loving wife, family, German Shepherd dog, two cats and a cheeky Angel fish. He enjoys weight lifting and Boxfit at the Kwinana Rec Centre, listening to 60s, 70s, and 80s music, and also watching rugby (Go the Hawke's Bay Magpies. the Wellignton Hurricanes, and the All Blacks!). He enjoys shopping at Kmart and Bunnings, and going to his Baptist Once Saved Always Saved church.
